SPRING THAW canceled, Opener on May 4
By Dave Panske
Seymour – April 7 – At their regular monthly club meeting Monday night, N.E.W. DIRT decided to cancel their Spring Thaw event scheduled for this Saturday, April 12 at the Seymour Speedway.
The track and grounds were still wet and a heavy rain hit the area during the meeting. The officers felt it was not going to permit proper track prep for a special event and want the track in good shape for all competitors.
If the weather co-operates at all, the club is still planning a practice for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. A final decision on the practice will be posted at 6 p.m. Thursday afternoon. If the practice is held pit will open at 1 p.m. with a $15 pit pass for everyone.
Focus will now be put on the official 2014 season opener on Sunday, May 4.
IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars and Sport Mods will be joined by the Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders on the weekly Sunday night programs. Spectator Eliminators will compete every other week starting on May 4th.
Race time has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. for the season.
N.E.W. DIRT is entering its 31st year promoting the weekly programs at the 1/3 mile banked clay oval. A schedule of 17 races will make up the season. The Summer Holiday Classic Series will return on Sunday nights, May 26, June 29 and August 31. Each will host the five regular season divisions with the WDLMA Late Models the highlight division. A special August 17 date will see the return of the IRA Sprint Cars to the Seymour Speedway. Their last appearance was in 2008. All five divisions will also run the program under a special format to allow plenty of time for the complete Sprint show.
